Project Coordinator
Location: Peterborough | Full-time, Permanent | £35k - £40k, depending on experience
You keep projects moving. From initial planning through to customer handover, you make sure the right people, equipment and information are in the right place at the right time.
This is a hands-on coordination role within OAL’s automation and systems integration team. Working closely with the Commercial Director and engineering teams, you will support the delivery of automation projects for food manufacturing customers across the UK.
You will coordinate schedules, track project progress, communicate with customers and suppliers, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on budget. You will play an important role in creating a smooth customer experience throughout the project lifecycle.
If you are organised, proactive and confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment, this role offers the opportunity to build your career within a growing automation business.
What this role looks like
Every project at OAL moves through a delivery cycle: planning, build, installation, commissioning, customer training and handover.
As Project Coordinator, you help keep that cycle running smoothly.
You will work closely with project engineers, commissioning engineers, customers and suppliers to coordinate activities, manage timelines and maintain communication throughout each stage of delivery.
Some weeks will be focused on preparing documentation and coordinating upcoming installations. Other weeks will involve supporting live projects, tracking milestones and helping resolve issues to keep delivery on track.
Day to day, you will be responsible for:
Coordinating project schedules, activities and milestones across multiple projects
Preparing and distributing project documentation including programmes, drawings and safety information
Planning resources and logistics for installation, commissioning and customer training
Monitoring project progress and updating delivery timelines
Acting as a key point of contact for customers during planning and site delivery activities
Supporting communication between customers, engineers, suppliers and internal teams
Helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget
Supporting SAT sign-off and customer handover activities
Coordinating the transition from project delivery to aftercare and support
Assisting with small works, spares and follow-on activities
Maintaining accurate project records and documentation
Supporting safe working practices and compliance with customer and OAL standards
Your skills probably already fit
This role suits someone who enjoys organisation, communication and keeping projects on track in a technical or engineering environment.
You may already be working as a Project Coordinator, Project Administrator or Project Support professional within engineering, manufacturing, automation, construction or technical services.
Experience that would be useful includes:
Coordinating technical, engineering or installation projects
Managing schedules, documentation and project tracking
Working with customers, suppliers and engineering teams
Understanding project delivery processes, timelines and budgets
Supporting site-based installation or commissioning activities
Working within manufacturing, automation or industrial environments
Technical awareness is beneficial, particularly around:
Mechanical or electrical systems
PLC controls or automation systems
Installation and commissioning activities
RAMS and safe working practices
You do not need to know every technology we use. If you are organised, willing to learn and comfortable working in a technical environment, we will support your development.
What we expect from you — and what you can expect from us
This role is central to successful project delivery. You will need to manage priorities, communicate clearly and stay organised when projects become busy.
The work is collaborative and fast-moving. You will work closely with engineers, customers and suppliers to help projects progress smoothly from planning through to completion.
You will need to be comfortable:
Managing multiple projects and competing priorities
Communicating confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Working to deadlines and adapting when plans change
Supporting both office-based and site-based project activities
Taking ownership of coordination tasks and following them through
In return, you will get:
Exposure to full automation and systems integration projects
The opportunity to work with experienced engineering teams
A supportive and collaborative working environment
Professional development support and funded training opportunities
The chance to grow your career within a developing business
What we are looking for
Experience coordinating or supporting engineering or technical projects
Strong organisational and communication skills
Able to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Customer-focused approach and collaborative attitude
Understanding of project delivery processes and documentation
Awareness of health and safety and RAMS processes
Technical awareness within mechanical, electrical or automation environments is advantageous
Project management qualification such as PRINCE2, or working towards one, is beneficial
Full UK driving licence preferred
Development support
We are happy to support and fund professional development relevant to the role.
